Old Saybrook, Connecticut

Old Saybrook sits at the mouth of the Connecticut River and was founded in 1854. Now a town of about 10,000 residents, it is near the Indian casinos and has a variety of shops and restaurants on Main Street with two public beaches and several parks. It also has direct train service by Amtrak to NYC.

Old Saybrook has an interesting difference in its government. That is, there is a section of town that is part of the town and in a sense is not part of the town. That section of land is called the Borough of Fenwick. Although there are a number of boroughs in Connecticut, the one connected to Old Saybrook may be the most famous one. Residents of the Borough pay taxes to the Borough as well as to the town of Old Saybrook. So it can be said that it takes a fairly wealthy family to be able to live in the Borough of Fenwick in Old Saybrook.
